The Holocaust
I have chosen this historical event in history because it represents the injustice being done to the Jews by Hitler and the Nazi’s. This event represents a relationship between the theme of injustice and the novel by showing how a certain races are subject to injustice simply because of other peoples view of your race.
History
The Holocaust was the genocide of approximately six million Jews during World War II by Nazi Germany which was led by Adolf Hitler. A group of 40 000 facilities in German occupied territories were used to kill the Jews and their other prisoners.
Significance to the Theme
The Holocaust is an event that many individuals can relate to whether they are Jewish or not. Everyone has heard about this injustice that was done to Jews during the 1900’s. This was not the only injustice done to the Jews, this was only one of the more significant injustices done to this particular race because of their beliefs. Many races are subject to injustice simply because the superior race needs someone to blame as a scapegoat. The Holocaust was a period of time where the Jews were subject to concentration camps were many Jews were killed. This historical event was one of the major injustices done to a certain race because Hitler wanted all the Jews to be killed. The Jews were seen as impure, and a threat to others, this is not true as this cannot be applied to all individuals. The Holocaust was essence an attempt to kill all Jews, and this is one of the worst injustices you can do to any individual or race.
Relationship Between the Theme and the Novel
The Holocaust is similar to the what the black peoples are going through, except it is not as life threatening as it was for the Jewish peoples. The black peoples are subject to racial persecution simply because of their skin color. This is very unjust as one race or individual is cannot be less human simply because of the way they look. The superior mentality of the whites in the segregation era is similar to the Hitler's belief of the Jews, he believed that the Jews were inferior to the rest and had to be killed. This mentality of the white peoples was very unjust for the black peoples and the Jews. The Holocaust was a time where Jews were forced to live in certain areas (ghettos) separate from other peoples. This is also similar to what the black peoples were forced to do, they also had to live in separate areas than the white peoples. Throughout the novel, we can see various instances where the black people are given poorer quality service due to their skin color. Overall, the Holocaust represents a relationship of injustice in the novel, A Lesson Before Dying.
